PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detecting device capable of properly preventing variations in detection characteristics. SOLUTION: A counter magnet 14 of a pedal side member 6 is held on a magnet holding section 13 provided at a holding member 12 such that it can be displaced in a plane direction in parallel to an attachment face 11a of an attachment plate 11. The counter magnet 14 is magnetized such that the counter magnet 14 is attracted by a bias magnet 8 when a brake pedal is under a non-operation condition and is held on a position where forces of the counter magnet 14 and the bias magnet 8 in the plane direction are balanced with each other.
