PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for more generally improving vivration-resistance performance in a magnetic disk unit. SOLUTION: The magnetic disk unit comprises a magnetic disk on which a normal area for writing data when a shock level is below a first specified value and a low recording density area for writing data when the shock level exceeds the first specified level, a shock sensor for detecting a shock, and a control means for writing data in the low recording density area instead of the normal area when the successive shock level detected by the sensor exceeds the first shock level.
