PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing spinning reel in which a switching mechanism for switching a drag mechanism from an operated state to a non-operated state is disposed, and which can exhibit a sufficient drag force without enlarging a portion around a spool/increasing the weight of the portion. SOLUTION: Provided is the fishing spinning reel having the spool 3 disposed on a spool shaft 3a to wind a line, a rotor 2 which can be rotated by the winding operation of a handle to wind the line on the spool 3 through a line guide 2a, and a switch mechanism 30 disposed between the spool 3 and the spool shaft 3a to switch the spool into a drag-operating state or into a drag-free state, characterized in that, when the spool 3 is switched into the drag-operating state, the spool 3 is rotated in a direction opposite to a direction for drawing out the line, thereby enabling to release the connection state of the connection mechanism 30 to switch the spool 3 into the free state.
