PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure with sufficient high withstanding pressure properties in an extra-high pressure mercury lamp which is turned on by atmospheric pressure. SOLUTION: A short arc high-pressure discharge lamp includes a welding area to an electrode axis (2) in a metal foil (3), wherein the area is made into a small width (31), formed so as to wind around the external surface of the electrode axis (2) and provided with a coil member (5) on the outer periphery of the metal foil (3).
