PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the tool fitting structure of a friction stir welding apparatus which is easily fitted and reliably held without detaching a tool. SOLUTION: A rotary tool holder having a casing 55 and a socket 56 is fitted to an FSJ gun main body. A through-hole part 64 is formed in the lid body 58 of the casing. The socket is turnably stored around the reference axis L0 in the casing 55. A fitting hole part to be connected to the through-hole part 64 is formed in the socket. The fitting hole part and the through-hole part are arranged in a connection state switchable manner between a disengaged state and an engaged state by turning the casing with respect to the socket. Further, in the disengaged state, a fitting part 77 can be fitted to the fitting hole part passing through the through-hole part. Since an enlarged portion is formed in the fitting part, the enlarged portion is caught by the lid body in the engaged state, and the fitting part cannot be detached passing through the through-hole part.
