PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developer which is improved in offset resistance and in which charging properties of a carrier is not degraded and the occurrence of fogging or scattering of toner is small even when the developer is used for a long period of time and a releasing agent is spent in the carrier in the developer. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic developer includes carrier and toner including at least a releasing agent, a binder resin, a colorant, and an external additive, wherein in the relation of frictional electrification between the toner and the carrier, (1) the frictional electrification generated between the toner and the carrier has charging polarities opposite to that of the frictional electrification generated between the carrier and toner particles in a state before the external additive is attached to the toner, and (2) the frictional electrification generated between the toner and the carrier has the same charging polarities as that of the frictional electrification generated between the carrier and the toner particles in a state in which the releasing agent is excluded from the toner and before the external additive is attached to the toner.
