<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric motor equipped with an overheat protection function having no wiring to the outside and an external monitor apparatus and also to independently operate the overheat protection function in the electric motor. <P>SOLUTION: A first resistor 76 and a second resistor 77 are provided in a motor casing 30a of an electric motor 30 which is connected to a power source 78 via a first switching element 74 provided in an electric control unit 70. A second switching element is connected in series to the electric motor and the power source. When the temperature in the motor casing 30a exceeds a predetermined temperature, power is cut off to stop the electric motor, while when the temperature drops below the predetermined temperature, power is supplied to operate the electric motor.
