<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make frame rate converter (FRC) effective, by broadening a search range of a motion vector of a picture horizontal direction, even when a display panel is used in an upright form. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal display panel 16 in which the display picture of a different aspect ratio is freely switched over a landscape screen or a portrait screen; and an FRC section 10 for converting the number of frames or the fields of an input image signal and outputting it to the liquid crystal panel 16 by interpolating the image signal to which motion compensation processing is applied between frames or fields of the input image signal. The liquid crystal display device includes a control section 14 for determining whether the liquid crystal display panel 16 is in the portrait screen state. When it is determined that the liquid crystal display panel 16 is in the portrait state by the control section 14, the FRC section 10 broadens the motion vector search range in the horizontal direction as compared with the vertical direction on the liquid crystal display panel 16. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
