<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission/reception device which transmits and receives an electric wave signal hierarchically coded and having an ultra-wideband frequency spectrum by a transmitter-receiver having a simple configuration and receives rough or detailed information selectively in accordance with the degree of performance of the receiver, a LAN, an official report system, and a transmission/reception method. <P>SOLUTION: The transmission/reception device for ultra-wideband signals includes a transmitter which transmits binary data by impulses without a carrier, and a receiver which receives the binary data. In particular, the transmitter transmits binary data recursively divided to blocks over a plurality of hierarchies, and the receiver includes a detector for detecting binary data from transmitted impulses and a plurality of block data determiners for determining binary data representing blocks of different hierarchies from the binary data.
