PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an injection molding machine which shortens the molding cycle of an injection molded article by cooling the article continuously over a range from a mold closing state to a mold opening state and makes it possible to produce a high quality injection molded article efficiently and a method for cooling the injection molded article. SOLUTION: The injection molding machine has a cooling groove 6 formed in the vicinity of an injection molding domain in the parting plane of a mold wherein the injection molded article is held when a movable mold 3 and a fixed mold 4 are opened and a cooling medium introduction channel 9 which is formed in the mold wherein the cooling groove of the movable mold and the fixed mold is not formed and has an outlet 24 opened in the parting plane. The cooling medium introduction channel leads the cooling medium into the cooling groove by communicating with a part of the groove when the movable mold and the fixed mold are closed, and the cooling medium acts directly on the held injection molded article when the movable mold and the fixed mold are opened.
