PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate work for setting tension T during initial setting of a diaphragm 3 in a diaphragm type resonator 1. SOLUTION: The diaphragm type resonator 1 forms an action point 8 of force on a surface of the diaphragm 3, and is provided with a drawing means 9 applying drawing force acting perpendicularly to the surface of the diaphragm 3 by drawing the diaphragm 3 from the action point 8. Tensile force T is adjusted and resonance frequency f<SB>0</SB>is varied by operation of drawing force. Consequently, the diaphragm resonator 1 is initially set under a condition where perpendicular component of force Tv of tensile force T and drawing force Fs balance in a perpendicular direction. Since the perpendicular component of force Tv is very small as compared to tensile force T, tensile force T can be made larger than a threshold by applying very small drawing force Fs on the diaphragm 3. Consequently, force for operating the diaphragm 3 in initial setting work can be greatly reduced and work for setting the diaphragm 3 so as to make tensile force T of the diaphragm 3 larger than the threshold can be facilitated.
