The disclosed device generates a weak current (controls temperature gradient formation) to raise the temperature of a membrane electrode assembly higher than the temperature of a separator if the water generated by the electrochemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen during power generation is predicted to freeze in the membrane electrode assembly that constitutes a fuel cell stack (100), after power generation by the fuel cell stack (100) is stopped. The control of temperature gradient formation is carried out only until a temperature gradient is formed between the membrane electrode assembly and the separator, and is promptly stopped once the temperature gradient is formed. It is thereby possible to inhibit the drop in a fuel cell system`s energy efficiency and improve the low-temperature startability in a fuel system provided with a fuel cell. |
