The invention relates to compensation films for liquid crystal displays, polarizer plates comprising at least one such compensation film, liquid crystal displays comprising compensation films of the type indicated, and a method for producing said compensation films, polarizer plates, and liquid crystal displays, the use of compounds of the formula (I) described below in more detail as additives to compensation films for liquid crystal displays, and further objects of invention related thereto. The optical compensation films according to the invention comprise one or more rod-shaped liquid crystals of the formula (I) as additives, wherein the radicals have the meanings given in the description, for adjusting suitable retardation values Re and Rth.
