The method involves arranging a wire (4) in a vertical direction from a front side (32) of a bale (3). The front side is pushed forward under formation of a loop from the wire, where the loop surrounds the bale at a lower side (31), the front side and an upper side (33). A fixed wire end is guided upwards at a rear side (34) of the bale, and a wire section is cut under formation of another wire end in a region of the former wire end and in the wire section coming from the upper side of the bale, where the wire ends are connected with each other. An independent claim is also included for a device for tying a bale.
