<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side airbag system using an airbag in a planar shape, capable of improving deployment performance while ensuring restraint performance. <P>SOLUTION: The side airbag system is structured such that an airbag 20 in a planar shape composed of a pair of foundation cloths 21, 22 overlapped in a vehicle width direction is stored in a seatback external portion of a vehicular sheet and the airbag 20 is inflated and deployed toward between a vehicle body side and a vehicular seat by inflation gas supplied in response to an impact from the exterior. At only a position (rear portion 20R) on a rearer side than a central portion in a fore/aft direction of the airbag 20, a pair of vertical folding portions 25, 26 are provided, in which a part thereof in the vertical direction is folded and joined in such a state as to vertically overlap each other. Further, a width W1 in a vehicle width direction near both the folding portions 25, 26 during inflation of the airbag 20 is set to be larger than a width W2 in the vehicle width direction during inflation of a rear portion 60R of an airbag 60 without both the folding portions 25, 26. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
