PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of sealing an end face of a ceramic honeycomb, the technique making sealing with uniform thickness possible, causing no shape irregularities of a sealed face, and making possible full automation and also operation of sealing from above. SOLUTION: A screen 6 is arranged above a ceramic honeycomb C in which a film mask 4 for limiting cells is closely stuck to the end face. In a state where the screen 6 is raised by a prescribed height from the end face of the ceramic honeycomb C with a gap forming member 13, slurry on the screen is pressed with a squeegee 10 to form a sealing slurry layer of a prescribed thickness between the film mask 4 and the screen 6. Then, with the gap forming member 13 lowered to the end face position of the ceramic honeycomb C, the squeegee 10 is moved again on the screen 6, the sealing slurry layer is force-fitted into the end face of the ceramic honeycomb C.
