PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording device that reduces the rate of decrease in the performance of a recording process due to the process of developing record data into dot images, a method of controlling the image recording device, and its program. SOLUTION: A first-side image developing unit 12 and a second-side image developing unit 13 perform a developing process by which the record data on a plurality of double-sided pages are developed into dot images for each page and held on each side. A continuous sheet conveyance control unit 14 causes a control unit 2 to start the conveyance of recording media by a conveying mechanism 40 at the timing when the number of pages of the dot images held by the developing process of the first-side image developing unit 12 and the second-side image developing unit 13 coincides with the number of extra holding pages which is determined based on both the conveying speed of the conveying mechanism 40 during an image recording process and the time required for the developing process, which time is specified for each of the first-side image developing unit 12 and the second-side image developing unit 13.
