PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a presser foot lifter of a sewing machine which lifts a presser foot without damaging sealing of the inside and outside of a head portion, facilitates lubrication of a mechanism in the head, and does not obstruct an increase in operation speed. SOLUTION: At a side of a presser bar 13 vertically moving in the head portion, a presser foot lifting bar 5 is supported so as to be vertically movable by a supporting bush 50 which penetrates the upper wall 12b of the head portion, and the presser foot lifting bar 5 is engaged to a presser bar holder 17 fixed to an intermediate part of the presser bar 13. The presser foot lifting bar 5 projecting upward from the supporting bush 50 has the upper end to which a presser foot lifter collar 55 is fixed, and the presser foot lifter collar 55 is pushed up by swing of a presser foot lifting lever provided outside the upper wall 12b, the presser bar 13 is moved upward through a presser bar holder 17, and the presser foot mounted at the lower end of the presser bar 13 is lifted.
