PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ashtray capable of easily extinguishing a cigarette while preventing erroneous extinguishment of the cigarette. SOLUTION: Provided is an ashtray 1 having a recovering part 2 having an opened top and capable of recovering a butt of a cigarette T in the recovering part and an extinguishing part 3 to extinguish a cigarette T, wherein the extinguishing part 3 has a flat dish form and contains an extinguishing layer 30 having a thickness to enable the extinguishment of a cigarette by a water-absorbing agent having a gel form by water-absorption. The extinguishing part 3 may be inclined from the horizontal direction, and the angle of the inclined face may be adjustable. The extinguishing part 3 may be separated from the recovering part 2.
