PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for two-component developer which hardly causes degradation in image quality even after repetitive use, to provide a two-component developer composed of the carrier and a toner, and to provide an image forming method using the developer. SOLUTION: The carrier includes core particles made of a magnetic material and a coating layer on the core particle, the coating layer formed by applying a coating liquid containing at least colloidal silica, a condensate of alkoxysilane having a specified structure, and a solvent onto the core particles. The two-component developer is prepared by combining the above carrier with a toner produced through aqueous granulation and containing a colorant, a binder resin and a releasing agent, in which the amount of the releasing agent in the surface region is <4 mass% measured by an FTIR-ATR spectroscopy. The two-component developer is supplied, for example, to a developer housing section (42K, 42Y, 42M, 42C) of an image forming apparatus 100 to form an image through a predetermined process.
