PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steam separator which reduces the height of a reactor pressure vessel. SOLUTION: A diffuser 10 containing a swirler 11 at the upper end of a stand pipe 7 is mounted on the steam separator 6, and three-stage steam separation components 21a, 21b, and 21c are placed in the diffuser 10 one by one. Each of the steam separation components surrounds the outside of an internal cylinder 12 with an external cylinder 13, and a pickoff ring 14 is mounted at the upper end of the external cylinder 13. A gap 15 is formed between the internal cylinder 12 and the pickoff ring 14. Liquid film discharge mechanisms 8 are placed circumferentially on the stand pipe 7 at intervals. The liquid film discharge mechanisms 8 protrude inward from the inner surface of the stand pipe 7. A liquid film rising along the inner surface of the stand pipe 7 is separated by the liquid film discharge mechanisms 8 and is discharged outside the stand pipe 7 by way of an opening 9 formed in it.
