PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure capable of preventing an annular member for securing an upper bearing which supports a pinion shaft from being released by a thrust force and a torque in a rack and pinion steering unit. SOLUTION: The rotational direction of the pinion shaft 6b when the thrust force is generated is made to match the rotational direction of the annular member 25a when the male screw section 28a of the annular member 25a is tightened to the female screw section 27a of a second cylindrical part 12a. The tilted directions of the rack teeth 10a and the pinion teeth 14a and the threading directions of the female screw section 27a and the male screw section 28a are restrained in association with each other.
