PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a relief printing apparatus, although a fine pattern can be formed, makes it difficult to fit the length of printing in the circumferential direction of a plate cylinder to a required length. SOLUTION: A distance of at least two separated alignment marks formed circumferentially on a relief printing plate mounted on the plate cylinder of the relief printing apparatus is observed by a first camera to obtain a value, which is made to be a first distance, and a distance of at least two separated alignment marks formed in the forwarding direction of a substrate to be printed is observed by a second camera to obtain a value, which is made to be a second distance. A method for alignment of the relief printing apparatus is characterized in that a moving velocity of the substrate to be printed or/and an angular velocity of the plate cylinder are adjusted so that the first distance and the second distance become substantially equal.
