PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal grinding machine allowing a user to determine whether a workpiece is normal without extending machining time as a whole to thereby prevent sudden occurrence of abnormality of a grinding wheel such as grinding burn, wheel shredding or the like. SOLUTION: A wheel head 11 has: magnetic bearings 14, 15, 16 for supporting a grinding wheel shaft 12 rotatably in a housing; and a radial displacement sensor 15 and an axial displacement sensor 16 for detecting displacement of the grinding wheel shaft 12. An abnormality determining means 24 has a partial leaning determining means for detecting whether a position of groove for grinding provided in the workpiece in advance leans on one side. The partial leaning determining means determines a force in the axial direction generated when the grinding wheel 20 comes into contact with the workpiece during rapid approach from outputs of the axial displacement sensor 16 and compares this force in the axial direction with a threshold value to determine whether it leans on one side.
