<p>An optical fibre has a waveguide structure wtih a core (2) extending along the longitudinal direction. A cladding layer (6) extends around the core in the same direction. The cladding ladding layer includes a photonic band gap region with radial air holes (8) arranged in a longitudinal and circumferential two-dimensional lattice to define a photonic band gap structure with a forbidden band gap at a predetermined range of wavelengths, light in the forbidden band gap not being able to propagate in the photonic band gap region.</p> |
