Method for applying light protection coatings to plastic substrates or plastic coated substrates comprises treating them with a plasma of frequency 20 - 450 kHz in the presence of an alkane. Independent claims are included for: (A) Light protective coating produced using the method; (B) plastic substrates or plastic coated substrates with coatings produced using the method; and (C) use of the light protective coatings on spectacle lenses, film, containers and plastic bottles.
