The system allows a generator-operable electrical machine (EM) of a motor vehicle to periodically generate recuperation braking torque (Mreku) acting on an axle of the vehicle. A control unit (8) is coupled with brake adjusting units. The control unit is designed in such a manner that the brake adjusting units are controlled depending on the braking torque applied by the machine during a braking process introduced based on driver-independent braking commands, so that the braking torque applied by a pedal-coupled brake system at the axle of the vehicle is minimized to a predetermined measure.
