PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multicolor printing machine, with which the presence or absence of the development of register slur in the widthwise direction of a web-shaped base material can be accurately determined irrespectively though the colors of respective register marks put to the web-shaped base material are different from one another.

SOLUTION: The development of the register slur in the widthwise direction of the web-shaped base material 30 is determined when the time needed from the time that the fore edge of the first register mark portion 10a of one register mark 10 between a plurality of the register marks 10 and 12 to be put to the web-shaped base material 30 is detected with one register mark detector 21 to the time that the fore edge of the second register mark portion 10b is detected with the one register mark detector 21 is different from the time that the fore edge of the first register mark portion 12a of the other register mark 12 is detected with the other register mark detector 22 to the time that the fore edge of the second register mark portion 12b is detected with the other register mark detector 22.
