PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a liquid droplet discharge apparatus capable of satisfactorily removing residual ink in an ejection head as well as improving a function to protect nozzles. SOLUTION: A protection plate 51 protecting nozzles 7 is fixed to a nozzle opening face 50 and the protection plate 51 is provided with penetration parts 53 exposing the nozzles 7 to an external side, groove parts 54 each one end part of which communicates with the penetration parts 53 and provided in recessed shapes so as to extend in a direction separated from the penetration parts 53 and opening parts 56 communicating with the other end part of the groove parts 54 and having openings formed toward an external side. A suction mechanism provided with a cap member 19 and a pump member 18 switchably operates for suction in a first mode in which the cap member 19 covers the penetration parts 53 and the opening parts 56, and a second mode in which the cap member 19 covers only one of the penetration parts 53 and the opening parts 56.
