PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing supporting structure for a worm reduction gear having a holder easily mounted on a housing for suppressing the gearing noise of an engaged portion, and a retainer for retaining the holder, an energizing member and a ball bearing in the housing while suppressing its come-off. SOLUTION: The holder 19 and the energizing member 20 are arranged on a bottom of the housing 11, and a coil spring 21 is wound between the urging member and the outer periphery of the holder. The holder 19 and the outer ring of the ball bearing 15 are mounted on a stepped portion 11a of the housing 11, and a wavy washer 17 and the retainer 16 are arranged outside the ball bearing 15, thrust in the axial direction and fixed thereto by a frictional force. A shaft end 12c and a small-diameter portion 12b of a worm shaft are inserted into a hole 20a of the energizing member and into a bush 18, respectively. A worm is elastically deformable, and a preload is imparted to the engaged portion to suppress the gearing noise. Even if a looseness occurs between the housing 11 and the retainer 16, an annular grooved 11v suppresses the come-off of the retainer 16. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
