PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas recirculation device for an internal combustion engine preventing deterioration of fuel economy. SOLUTION: An engine system is provided with a fuel property sensor 17e determining properties of fuel supplied to the engine 1, an EGR passage 9 and an EGR valve 10 re-circulating part of exhaust gas of the engine 1 to an intake system, and ECU 13 changing an operation zone where exhaust gas is re-circulated to the intake system according to determination result of the fuel property sensor 17e. The ECU 13 reduces the operation zone where exhaust gas is re-circulated to the intake system when the fuel property is heavy fuel as compared to the operation zone when the fuel property is regular or light fuel.
