<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite machine having many functions, including scanning function and printing function, which can exhibit other functions, even when a memory is occupied by a certain function, while the memory is shared by mutually different functions. <P>SOLUTION: The composite machine with a plurality of functions for performing image processing allows a functional unit which is different from an operating functional unit to preferentially execute a cut-in operation to the operating functional unit. One memory units is shared, and the other is used for backup; and if the functional unit executing the cut-in operation demands a memory larger than free space in one memory unit, data stored in the memory unit is saved in another memory unit.
