PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel excavating apparatus which is for use in excavation work of a tunnel having a relatively small cross section, and can survey an area in front of a working face in a relatively short time. SOLUTION: The tunnel excavating apparatus 10 is set up by mounting a drill machine 15 having a drill bit 14 placed on a front end thereof, on a free cross-sectional excavator 13 with an excavating boom 12 having an excavating head 11 placed on a front end thereof, in a manner movable in a tunnel axial direction. To this end, a mount 17 is arranged in a space defined by a body 16 of the free cross-sectional excavator 13 and a tunnel internal peripheral surface 40 in a manner movable in the tunnel axial direction, and the drill machine 15 is mounted on the mount 17 and operated in a manner movable in the tunnel axial direction with respect to the mount 17 or selectively fixable to predetermined locations.
