The method involves moving vials (116) in multiple rows into a transfer plane (110), and lifting the vials standing on the transfer plane adjacent to a surface i.e. buffer surface or evacuating conveyor belt (124). The surface is lowered for the vials remaining on the transfer plane, where the vials are not touching the surface. The vials are lifted for approximately 0.5 to 20 millimeters. The surface is lowered for approximately 0.5 to 20 millimeters. The vials are separated by rows. A transporter is utilized to transfer the vials into the evacuating conveyor belt. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for separating number of vials comprising a transfer plane.
