A latch device is provided to secure smooth release of the latch body in the stand by position where a movable body starts to reciprocate by itself. A latch device(4) comprises a latch body(41), an elastic support member(42), and a retaining member. The latch body is located on one of a movable body and a fixed body supporting the movable body and moves in the movement direction of the movable body. The retaining member keeps the latch body in the stand by position against the elastic force of the elastic support member. The latch body comprises a latch base(411) elastically supported by the elastic support member, a slider(412) moving back and forth on the latch base, and a latch arm(413) installed on the latch base. When the slider is moved back by the contact of a striker(3), the latch arm is moved to hold the striker and the movable body retained by the retaining member is released. |
