<p>Use of a hardenable steel alloy for armor of vehicles with a component (I) of hardened steel, is claimed, where the steel alloy comprises (in wt.%) carbon (0.35-0.55), silicon (0.1-2.5), manganese (0.3-2.5), phosphorus (maximum 0.05), sulfur (maximum 0.01), aluminum (0.08), copper (maximum 0.5), chromium (0.1-2), nickel (maximum 3), molybdenum (maximum 1), cobalt (maximum 2), boron (0.001-0.005), niobium (0.01-0.08), vanadium (maximum 0.4), nitrogen (maximum 0.02), titanium (maximum 0.2), and iron and other impurities (balance).
