A power managing block for a nonvolatile memory is provided to perform a data recovery process only when a previous power down of a memory system is not normal. A power source is supplied to a memory part(504). Whether an initialization signature exists in the power memory block or not is determined(508). If the initialization signature does not exist in the power memory block, the initialization of the memory part is performed(528). If the initialization signature exists in the power memory block, whether the power down signature exists in the power memory block or not is determined(512). If the power down signature exists in the power memory block, the memory part is used(532). If the power down signature does not exist in the power memory block, the block synchronization process is performed(516).
