A de-interlacing apparatus and a method thereof using a directional correlation de-interlacing an image of interlace scanning mode in a sequential scanning are provided to maintain an edge direction by acquiring a pixel value about interpolation target pixel. An edge direction sensor(110) calculates the correlation of the angular orientation about the interpolation target pixel. A weighted value evaluator(120) calculates the weight value about each direction within space time window by using correlation. A weighted value applying unit(130) obtains the weight application pixel value about the interpolation target pixel. An interpolating unit(140) obtains the pixel value about the interpolation target pixel.
