An apparatus and method for playing a media file are provided to move a media file from a storage medium and reproduce the media file in a RAM, thereby stopping supplying power to a storage medium driving device. A storage medium driving unit(10) reads out a media file from a storage medium. A memory unit(20) temporarily stores data which is read out from the storage medium driving unit. A power supply unit(40) supplies power to the storage medium driving unit. A controller(30) stores the media file in a memory unit. The controller reproduces the media file by accessing a memory area of the memory unit.
