The method involves representing a setpoint of a parameter in a form of a spacing between a vehicle mark (1) and a setpoint mark (3), where the mark (1) symbolizes a vehicle and the mark (3) depends on the setpoint that is selected by a driver of the vehicle. A preceding vehicle is represented in a form of a pictogram (2) when the preceding vehicle is detected, where a spacing between the pictogram and the vehicle mark represents a real value of the parameter. A spacing between the pictogram and the setpoint mark represents a difference between the real value and the setpoint. An independent claim is also included for a screen for displaying a parameter for assisting driving of a vehicle.
