The method involves coding a video image based on intra and/or inter-frame coding according a direct transformed quantification, where the image is subjected to movement estimation process of block of pixels to generate a movement estimation vector and main video stream. The image is coded based on a simplified direct transformed quantification applied to harmonic frequency components of the block of pixels to generate coded frequency components. The vector is associated to the coded frequency components to generate a series of coded images of reduced quality forming a secondary video stream. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for coding successive video images according to main video stream with full resolution and secondary video stream with full resolution and reduced quality (2) a device for decoding successive coded video images according to main video stream with full resolution and/or secondary video stream with full resolution and reduced quality, comprising a current image decoding path (3) a computer program comprising a set of instructions stored on a storage support of a computer or dedicated video coding device (4) a computer program comprising a set of instructions stored on a storage support of a computer or dedicated video decoding device.
