PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus suppressing soiling of a transfer member due to toner, in the case of performing a process to supply a toner image to a cleaning member so as to maintain lubricity between the cleaning member and an image carrier. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the image carrier 1; the transfer member 5; a power source 51 for applying a transfer voltage to the transfer member 5; the cleaning member 7a; and a fixing device 6. The image forming apparatus performs an operation to form, in addition to an output image I to be fixed to the transfer material P, a toner supply image S for supplying the toner to a cleaning section C on the image carrier, make the toner supply image S pass through a transfer section N and supply the toner supply image S to the cleaning section C. The toner supply image S forming area on the image carrier 1 is set in a position where the image carrier 1 passes through the transfer section N while the transfer material P passes through the transfer section N in the moving direction of the image carrier 1, and also, where the output image I is not formed.
