PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a module for processing a work piece capable of automatically recognizing an arrangement state of modules in a processing system for a work piece composed of a plurality of processing modules. SOLUTION: In a processing system 1 for a work piece equipped with a plurality of processing modules 3-7 and a high-order computer 2 connected through a communication line 15 which can communicate interactively, the system is equipped with a signal output section which outputs a predetermined signal in response to a specific command output from the high-order computer 2 to each processing module, and a signal receiving section which receives via signal lines 16b-16e a predetermined signal outputted from a signal output section of another adjacent processing module to be able to output the receiving result to the high-order computer. The high-order computer 2 that confirms the receiving result through the communication line 15 reads an identification code for identifying the processing module, and each processing module is thereby specified.
