PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a medium base material in mushroom bed cultivation of mushroom, jet contacting steam to a chip-like or sawdust powder-like mushroom bed medium base material in a process before fermenting a medium, and letting the medium base material absorb moisture so as to give a moisture content necessary for spread of mushroom hyphae. SOLUTION: The method for treating the medium base material includes charging a chip-like and/or sawdust powder-like mushroom bed medium base material into a steaming type mixer in a previous stage of a medium fermenting process in mushroom bed cultivation of mushroom, charging steam from a steam boiler to the steaming type mixer, promoting dew condensation through gradually jet contacting steam from the steam boiler to the medium base material, and transmitting heat to the inside and softening base material woodiness so as to infiltrate the dew condensation water into the inside of the medium base material and bring a moisture content of the medium base material to≥35%.
