<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of maintaining the reproducibility of the colors of a face region (in particular a flesh color) without significantly deteriorating coding efficiency in image coding processing. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus having a coding processing section is provided with preprocessing sections, i.e., a format converting section for converting input image data into a luminance signal (Y) conforming to a predetermined image format and two color difference signals (Cr, Cb); and a face detecting section for detecting the face region of a person from the input image data. The format converting section converts a pixel region other than the face region detected by the face detecting section in accordance with a first image format (e.g. 4:2:0), and converts the face region in accordance with a second format (4:2:2) in which the information quantity of a color difference signal is larger than that of the first image signal. The coding processing section divides the region converted based on the same image format into macroblocks, and executes coding processing in macroblock units. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
