PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an acrylic copolymer by which polymerization control including heat removal and agitation is easy, and which is for efficiently producing an acrylic copolymer having a high rate of polymerization so as to improve various performances of an adhesive, a pressure-sensitive adhesive, a coating material, a hard coat, etc., in which the produced acrylic copolymer is used. SOLUTION: In the method for producing an acrylic copolymer, anα-methylstyrene dimer of a specific structural formula is used in an amount of 0.002-10.0 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of an acrylic monomer and the acrylic monomer having a 4-12C alkyl ester group is radically copolymerized.
