PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve heat-resistance, breaking strength and working-accuracy of a thermal head, also, to obtain good thermal efficiency and responsiveness, and to reduce power consumption and achieve high-speed printing. SOLUTION: The thermal head includes: a glass substrate 11 in which a recessed void portion 11a facing a protrusion 20a is formed; and a glaze layer 20 disposed on the glass substrate 11, and having the protrusion 20a formed thereon. The glaze layer 20 includes: a base layer 21 laminated on the glass substrate 11 and forming the ceiling surface of the void portion 11a; and a heat-resistant layer 22 laminated on the base layer 21, and having heating resistors 12 arrayed thereon.
