<p>A face-type seal is adapted to be disposed between a stationary element and a rotatable element. The face-type seal arrangement includes an annular cassette adapted to be coupled to the stationary element and a carrier disposed within the cassette and adapted to be coupled to the rotatable element so as to rotate together therewith and relative to the cassette. The face-type seal further includes a drive face coupled to the carrier so as to rotate together therewith, and a seal element operatively coupled to the cassette and resiliency biased into sealing engagement with the drive face. In one example, the carrier is adapted to be coupled to the rotatable element by at least one lock-pin. In another example, one of the seal element and the drive face includes a material having a hardness generally equal to or greater than approximately 8.5 on the Moh's hardness scale.</p>
