A compound of Formula (1) or a salt thereof: A-N=N-M1-N=N-M2-N=N-E wherein A is an optionally substituted carbocyclic or optionally substituted heterocyclic aromatic group; M1is either: (i) an optionally substituted naphthylene group, or (ii) an optionally substituted phenylene group having at least one electron donating group in a position ortho to one of the azo groups; M2 is an optionally substituted heterocyclic aromatic group; and E is an optionally substituted heterocyclic aromatic group.
