PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical writing type display medium which includes high sensitivity in optical writing.

SOLUTION: Disclosed is the optical write type display medium which includes: a pair of substrates disposed opposite each other and provided with electrodes on opposite surfaces; and two or more layers including a liquid crystal layer and an optical switching layer disposed between the pair of substrates. The liquid crystal layer contains a water-soluble resin and also contains ≤0.5% of water.
